Our Story

K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory, Jacksonville

K. L. Brown Funeral Home came into existence in 1978 when Koven L. (K.L.) Brown purchased Roebuck-Greenlawn Mortuary from Sammie F. Bryant. In 1994, a crematory was added. After an electrical fire destroyed the crematory in 2001 the cremation center was built that same year. It provided and continues to provide families with the option of local, onsite cremations as well as a multipurpose room for gatherings.

In March 2018, an EF-3 tornado tore through Jacksonville leaving the community and the Funeral Home with extensive damage.  The Funeral Home was forced to temporarily close and the staff and operations were relocated to the Anniston location.  The rebuild was completed in June of 2019. While the exterior looks the same as it did prior to the tornado, there have been many updates to the interior.

Koven (K. L.) Brown and Barry Kughn built and opened a beautiful new facility in June of 1999 – Brown and Kughn Memory Chapel.  In 2006, Mr. Brown became the sole owner and the name was changed to K. L. Brown Memory Chapel.

The beginning of a new tradition….

In August 2016, Craig and Tonia purchased both K. L. Brown Memory Chapel and K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Crematory after Koven’s retirement. They are honored to continue the work of caring for the families in our communities.
